Stonehills

Stonehills is a small mining settlement east of Morthal.

Stonehills is the encampment for the miners working in Rockwallow Mine, owned by Thane Bryling of Solitude, with Sorli's house next to the mine. Sorli the Builder and her spouse, Pactur, run the mine and live in the house with their son Sirgar. The camp consists of a group of five small tents arranged around a central campfire, each with a bedroll inside. North of the campfire is a rack with nine salmon hanging from it, with a chicken coop containing two chicken's nests further to the north near a wood chopping block and smelter. Beside the smelter is a cart holding four iron ingots, with six more ingots stacked beside the smelter on the ground. Opposite the cart are a stack of crates with a pickaxe on top.

Southwest of the campfire is a grindstone, while around the camp are a few patches of fly amanita, a snowberry bush, and several blue mountain flower patches. A waist-high stone wall in poor condition separates the camp from the road, also marking the path to the mine and encampment. The road links Dawnstar to Morthal. The settlement is protected by one Hjaalmarch guard, who stands outside the mine.

Notes[edit]

  • Unused keys, merchant chests, and NPCs indicate Stonehills was originally intended to be significantly larger than it appears in the final game.
    • Mine workers Jesper, Swanhvir, and Teeba-Ei each carry a key to a longhouse which doesn't exist, suggesting they'd all bunk together in one residence.
    • Another unused key and a locklist indicate mine overseer Gestur Rockbreaker was also meant to live in his own house.
    • Two unused NPCs were also meant to be present here: Talib, the son of Gestur, and Argi Farseer, the sister of Jarl Idgrod Ravencrone, the latter of whom would have also had her own house.
    • Finally, another unused key and a merchant chest indicate a blacksmith vendor named Aleuc, who no longer exists in NPC form, was also meant to reside at Stonehills.
  • As can be seen by their Form IDs, the workers at Stonehills were created before the members of Sorli's family. Moreover, the workers never interact with any member of Sorli's family, who in turn have no unique scenes and only mention each other in passing. Finally, Pactur and Gestur Rockbreaker both act as if they're the mine overseer, while completely ignoring the other's existence.
  • During the day, an unusually large number of blue butterflies and monarch butterflies are along the road and path leading to the settlement.
  • Stonehills also appears in Arena.

Bugs[edit]

  • If the Stormcloaks take over Hjaalmarch as part of the civil war, Pactur's wife Sorli will be appointed the new jarl and will move to Highmoon Hall in Morthal. Although Pactur is meant to serve as her steward, she will only bring mine worker Teeba-Ei to Morthal, leaving Pactur in Stonehills. Despite remaining in Stonehills, Pactur's dialogue will change to suggest he is living in Morthal and serving as Sorli's steward.
    • This bug is also fixed by the Hearthfire add-on. It gives Pactur AI packages that ensure he relocates to Morthal at the appropriate time.
