Quick Walkthrough[edit]
- Talk to Lozruth and Sharela.
- Find the keys to open the tomb in the catacombs.
- Explore the tomb.
- Learn the truth about the duel between Gaiden Shinji and Baloth Bloodtusk.
Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
Lozruth and Sharela have uncovered an ancient tomb, but disagree on who rests within. Lozruth believes it is the tomb of Baloth Bloodtusk, while Sharela thinks that it is that of Gaiden Shinji. Once you have spoken to both of them, you will need to head to the Honor's Rest Catacombs below the ruins to try and find the burial urns that will open the main doors, so you can find out the truth for yourself.
Sharela suggests you start by finding a monument stone in the catacombs; this is just inside the entrance, and leads you on to drink from a pair of memorial pools. Each one leads to the memories of one of the followers of Baloth Bloodtusk and Gaiden Shinji, respectively.
Arakul's Memory[edit]
The pool in the western halls leads to Arakul's memory. You appear inside an Orc longhouse, where you will see Baloth Bloodtusk conversing with Commander Reliana, a messenger of Lord Trystan, after delivering a letter from King Joile of Daggerfall. Speak with Baloth, and he will advise you that he has no plans to join King Golkarr of Orsinium's doomed battle against the Bretons. However, upon learning that his brother was killed by the Bretons, and seeing Joile's threat for what it is, Baloth is now considering joining the Bretons instead.
Having learned what you needed to from the memory, you can speak with Reliana, and then head back to the Catacombs, where Arakul's burial urn is revealed behind the waterfall.
Tamahl's Memory[edit]
Access the eastern halls by following the river through the caves. The memorial pool at the end of the trail here leads to Tamahl's memory. Gaiden Shinji is conferring with Lord Trystan about the recent transfer of command to General Mercedene. While Shinji believes the siege is unjust, Trystan says that Mercedene will not call it off. Trystan informs Shinji that King Joile has suggested a duel between Shinji and Baloth Bloodtusk could end the siege. Speak with Shinji, and he will inform you of his disdain over the choice that Joile has left him; either he must challenge Baloth himself, or the king will order Trystan to do so in his stead.
With Shinji's mind made up, you can speak with Trystan and Reliana before leaving the memory, and then head back to the Catacombs. Tamahl's burial urn will appear behind the waterfall.
Into the Halls of Honor[edit]
Now that you have both burial urns, leave the Catacombs and return to Sharela. Goruz, an advisor of the king, has arrived to appraise the discovery, but will quickly move out of the way once the quarrelling resumes. Inform Lozruth and Sharela of what happened in the Catacombs if you wish, then place the urns to unlock the door.
The Halls of Honor present a unique sight to you and your companions – masonry and statuary of both Baloth's Savage Sons, and Shinji's Order of Diagna, side-by-side, in equal standing. Your journal confirms what the researchers are alluding to; this appears to be the tomb of both Baloth Bloodtusk and Gaiden Shinji. Continue into the central burial chamber to investigate further.
- Lozruth: "I don't believe it."
- Sharela: "One is clearly Gaiden Shinji … but the other …."
- Lozruth: "Baloth Bloodtusk. Memorialized in stone."
- Sharela: "This is their tomb. Both of them?"
- Lozruth: "They were mortal enemies. How can this be?"
- Sharela: "There must be a reason. We should look around, learn how this was possible."
This is your cue to explore the area and find out more. A third memorial pool behind the statue may hold the answers.
Reliana's Memory[edit]
You now enter into the memories of Commander Reliana. Immediately in front of you is Rokaug, the supposedly-dead brother of Baloth Bloodtusk, who informs you that the entire duel is a ruse by King Joile and General Mercedene to defeat both Orsinium and Hammerfell's strongest defenders together, leaving the Bretons as the only power in the region. You must now hurry to find Lord Trystan and warn him of Mercedene's betrayal.
The route is swarming with King Joile's assassins, who you will need to get past in order to continue. As you proceed, you will see Baloth and Shinji's duel progressing on the other side of the chasm, as well as hear the origin of one of Shinji's famous proverbs. Unfortunately however, you will not arrive in time to prevent the betrayal.
- General Mercedene: "Archers—now!"
- Lord Trystan: "No!
- Lord Trystan: "General Mercedene? What have you done?"
- General Mercedene: "A duel for a city? Pathetic! King Joile wanted victory, and today I deliver it."
- Lord Trystan: "Curse you, General Mercedene. To the depths of Oblivion, I curse you!"
- General Mercedene: "Fool! If you bear them so much love, fall and die beside them!"
As you round the corner to where the duel was taking place, you find Lord Trystan, wounded, beside the bodies of Gaiden Shinji and Baloth Bloodtusk. He orders you to chase down General Mercedene – she can be found at the end of the next hallway. After you defeat her, you can find King Joile's Orders to General Mercedene on the table nearby before returning to Lord Trystan.
The Day Honor Came to Rest[edit]
Lord Trystan informs you of his plans to bury Gaiden Shinji and Baloth Bloodtusk side-by-side to honor their memory and sacrifice. Now having learned all that you need to, you can leave Reliana's memory and return to Lozruth and Sharela. It seems that both of them also experienced Reliana's memory in some way, and concede that they were both right about who was buried in the tomb. They resolve to honor the memories of the two warriors and continue to study the tomb together.
Notes[edit]
- During the final vision, Baloth Bloodtusk and Gaiden Shinji can't be seen dueling before reaching the related objective.
Bugs[edit]
- The burial urns already appear visible behind the waterfalls before accessing the visions that are meant to reveal them. ?
- Exiting the memories without completing them results in the waterfalls appearing parted as when they do after the memories are completed, but the urns are now missing. ?
- Lothurz and Sharela disappear from the tomb area if you exit the final memory via the exit point presented at the start. ?
