Quest-Related Events[edit]
When you arrive outside Bal Sunnar you can overhear her talking with a Telvanni Sun Mage through the gates. The mage notices you approach:
- Telvanni Sun Mage: "Warn the others. The Scourge has returned!"
- <One of their companions runs off.>
- Saresea: "Let me in, you fools!"
You can then speak with Saresea to see what is going on:

After you agree to help, you can ask Saresea some questions about the situaton:
- "Even with our combined ability, Bal Sunnar will be dangerous. But we must find the temporal distortion.
Once inside, we should split up. We can search faster that way. I'll observe your progress and contact you by projection." - Can you tell me about yourself? /Why has the Psijic Order sent you here? / Why did the Psijic Order send you here? (if you are a member of the Psijic Order)
- "Oh, I assigned myself this job. I often work separately from the others.
This region of Tamriel worries me. So, I took responsibility for keeping an eye on it." - Why do you think this region needs to be watched?
- "Just a suspicion. The Telvanni have always concerned me. Their hunger for power leads them in unwise directions, such as disturbing the temporal flow.
I know we're not supposed to interfere. But I feel it's required."
- "Just a suspicion. The Telvanni have always concerned me. Their hunger for power leads them in unwise directions, such as disturbing the temporal flow.
- What's this about contacting me by projection?
- "Surely you've experienced this before. I will insert my image into your mind when I need to speak to you. It will be temporary due to how much I'll need to concentrate.
I can observe your progress this way, and inform you of mine."
- "Surely you've experienced this before. I will insert my image into your mind when I need to speak to you. It will be temporary due to how much I'll need to concentrate.
- "Oh, I assigned myself this job. I often work separately from the others.
- I want to know more about this temporal distortion./ Can you say more about the temporal disturbance?
- "Picture time as a river. Trite, perhaps, but a useful concept. An eddy swirls within Bal Sunnar's temporal flow. Not too large, yet. I'd like to find the source before it grows."
- Do you have an idea of the source?
- "Not yet. An event like this can arise for all sorts of reasons—powerful spells, activated relics, Daedric trickery. Sometimes they just happen.
The source should be obvious when you see it. Time distortions require a great deal of power." - How will you resolve the distortion?
- "Depends. I've studied events like these for a long time. If the source is something common, then I'm prepared. If not, well, I'll have to figure it out."
- What do you know about Bal Sunnar?
- "Stone's Blessing. That's what the name means. The Dark Elves constructed it centuries ago. Placing it here with the surrounding mountains keeps them hidden away.
Rarely do people come in and out of this town. It's quite a strange mystery." - You mentioned these are Telvanni. What do you know of them?
- "Even among the paranoid houses of Dark Elves, the Telvanni excel at secrets. I've seen them act with keen savagery.
They have a reputation as masters of the arcane. But this knowledge comes from cruelty, not calm study."

After speaking to her and approaching the gate, she will speak and open the gate:
- Saresea: "Naive to think that a gate stops me."
- <The gate opens and you can head in.>
- Saresea: "Push through the opposition. We must find the distortion."
As you fight your way through the first section, Saresea's projection will appear and give you an update on her own progress:
- Saresea: "No luck on my end. Continue your search in the tower."
When you enter the tower, Saresea joins you and immediately notices the disortion:
- Saresea: "There! As though a knot has formed in time."
Once in the main room of the tower, you will notice two things. A strange ball on energy hovering above the room and that Kovan Giryon is waiting for you:
- Kovan Giryon: "Scourge! I've waited a lifetime for you."
- Saresea: "Draw the guardian's ire so I can contain the distortion."
- Kovan Giryon: "Your rampage ends now!"
While you fight Kovan, Saresea will attempt to unravel the distortion. However, once the fight is concluded, the following happens:
- Kovan Giryon: "How? I didn't see my end."
- <He dies.>
- Saresea: "The threads are too many. The knot is too tight. I can't …."
- <Your vision goes black.>
Out of the Past[edit]
When you come to, Saresea will be looking up at the ceiling, where the distortion is no longer there. She then notices your surroundings:
- Saresea: "It's gone. Wait … we've moved. Look around."
Before you continue, you can speak with Saresea about what has happened:
- "That temporal knot, it's unlike anything I've seen. Threads of chance and potential tangled around a single point.
I tried containing the distortion. But it … resisted. It had power, but also a will. We must track it down again." - What happened? Things look different.
- "When the temporal knot resisted containment, I lost control. It exploded with energy. And now we're here.
This vaguely looks like the tower, but different. Newer. We should go outside to investigate."
- "When the temporal knot resisted containment, I lost control. It exploded with energy. And now we're here.
- What do you mean by temporal knot?
- "Imagine time as a woven fabric with threads that cross and stitch together. That distortion bound the threads unnaturally.
A crude analogy. Time isn't made of physical strands, of course. But it's the best way I could think of to describe it."
- "Imagine time as a woven fabric with threads that cross and stitch together. That distortion bound the threads unnaturally.
When you go outside the tower to confront the construction overseers:
- Saresea: "My word … the settlement is hardly built. The distortion threw us into the past."
- Telvanni Geomancer: "Interlopers! Lay down your arms and it will be a quick death!"
- Saresea: "Even now they get in our way!"
Once you have defeated the enemies from the past:
- Saresea: "I'd hoped to stay clear from violence. But times are dire."
- Saresea: "Now, find the distortion again. Hurry!"
Outside, you will find Bal Sunnar is still under construction and that you are in the past. Saresea's projection will contact you once you enter the Excavation Site:
- Saresea: "Excellent progress. I sense it's deeper below ground. Keep searching."
Roksa the Warped[edit]
Explore the caverns, Matriarch Lladi Telvanni will shout at you, wanting to know how learnt about their "discovery". In the cavern which contains the distortion, she will then unleash Roksa the Warped on you, Saresea will then arrive:
- Matriarch Lladi Telvanni: "Rise, my blessed pet! Defend our home!"
- Saresea: "Here you are! I felt a surge of power and … what is that?"
During the fight, Roksa will use the distortion. Saresea will call out warnings when it does that and when it is about to unleash the energy it accumulated:
- Consuming the Distortion's Power
- "It's tapping into the distortion's power!"
- "It's drawing energy from the distortion!"
- "It's going for the distortion!"
- Beckoning you to find sanctuary in the light
- "To the light! Quickly!"
- "Get to the light!"
- "Take shelter in the light!"
- Roksa releasing the energy
- "Quickly now, it's about to release!"
- "Spread out! The creature's releasing its power!"
- "Such immense power!"
- Darklight Orb spawns
- "That orb! Stop it!"
- "Track that orb and stop it!"
- "Disable that orb!"
Once is Roksa the Warped is slain, Saresea will point out the creature's attacks destabilized the once more:
- Saresea: "The distortion. That creature destabilized it!"
- <Saresea tries to contain the distortion.>
- Saresea: "I can't control it!"
- <Your vision goes black once more.>
Back to the Future[edit]
When you come to, you will find the cavern has changed and there is a rope ladder so you can leave:
- Saresea: "It moved us. Again. But what era?"
- Saresea: "Up the rope seems the only way out. Go. I'll catch my breath."
You can speak with Saresea before you leave:
- "I pushed myself so hard to unravel the knot. But still … I couldn't do it. Maybe I'm too weak, I don't have the will.
Please, track down the distortion again. I'm exhausted, but I can try one more time." - Will you be all right?
- "I feel emptied. This attempt at containing the distortion took all I had. And yet, it wasn't enough.
I have to consider my next approach. Perhaps it can't be contained at all."
- "I feel emptied. This attempt at containing the distortion took all I had. And yet, it wasn't enough.
- Are we in the same cavern?
- "Seems pretty similar, right? I can only surmise, based on what happened in the tower, that we've jumped in time again. The question now is when?
I don't recall this lava in the past."
- "Seems pretty similar, right? I can only surmise, based on what happened in the tower, that we've jumped in time again. The question now is when?
When you climb the ladder, Saresea will follow you up. Looking around, you will see Bal Sunnar has vastly changed. The buildings are ruined, there is fires everywhere and green slime and pus can be found on the walls and ground. Saresea will then run along the path as she comments:
- Saresea: "What happened here? Did the distortion cause this?"
- Saresea: "Fire falls from the sky. Buildings destroyed. Such chaos."
- <She notices a building in the distance.>
- Saresea: "A temple of Peryite? What have they done?"
- <Saresea then stops on the bridge.>
- Saresea: "Go to the temple. I need to understand what's happened."
You can then enter the Daedric Temple and fight your way through the Blessed of Peryite. Midway through, Saresea will pop up and comment:
- Saresea: "The matriarch arrived here from the past. It seems she forged a defensive pact with Peryite."
When you reach the entrance to the Peryitic Ritual Chamber, Saresea will head in before you:
- Saresea: "Here you are. The temporal distortion wasn't in the tower."
- Saresea: "I fear they built this temple around the knot. Let's go."
- <Saresea goes through the door.>
Matriarch Lladi fight[edit]
When you enter the chamber, you will find Matriarch Lladi Telvanni manipulating the energy of the distortion. Saresea will attempt to reason with the Matriarch:
- Saresea: "Well, I was right. Here it is."
- Saresea: "Matriarch! Allow us to neutralize the distortion!"
- Matriarch Lladi Telvanni: "I've waited years for you. Preparing. Seething. Gaining in power."
- Matriarch Lladi Telvanni: "Your scourge is over!"
- <Matriarch Lladi attacks you.>
- Saresea: "I cannot allow this to continue. I must destroy it."
- Saresea: "Keep the Matriarch away from me while I focus!"
During the fight, Saresea will assist you by trying to contain the shards of time. She will then point out when a fragment has become available to stop the Matriarch's attack:
- "A shard of time!"
- "I can't contain all the shards!"
- "A fragment has broken off!"
- "Time fragments under the strain!"
Once Matriarch Lladi is dead, Saresea will attempt to contain the temporal distortion:
- Saresea: "So much. All of time. It's so strong!"
- Saresea: "The knot is … unravelling. I can pull us through …."
- <The screen goes dark.>
Into to the Present[edit]
When you come to, Saresea will walk towards you with a strange angular object hovering above her, which you may recognize as a purple glyphic. As she walks, chrono-reflections will peel off her and as she speaks her voice has a strange echo:
- Saresea: "We have emerged. I feel … different."
Talk to Saresea to complete the quest:
- "You are home. I am … now. But, I am also fighting the beast. And I am wandering the fields as a child. Ah. I see.
The temporal distortion—the knot—had wrapped around an artifact. Cutting the knot exposed its energies. Made me multichronal." - Multichronal?
- "I manifest at many points. I am at my death. I am at your creation. Ah. I did not realize this about you. Interesting.
Nonetheless, we have succeeded. Here. Your payment as promised. You will spend it wisely."
Once you have completed the quest, you can speak with her some more to get answer:
- "The artifact within the temporal knot—it has a fate. I am handing it over to a friend. I watch as its siblings take form.
Sign it, proxy." - You saw something about me. Something you didn't realize.
- "Yes. You already know it. Or you will. Your path is more difficult to see. Blurrier. Like seawater.
If you do not know, it is not my place to say. Do not ask again."
- "Yes. You already know it. Or you will. Your path is more difficult to see. Blurrier. Like seawater.
- What exactly has happened to you?
- "I fragmented. Shattered across time. Something … collected me. Rebound back into this form.
Now, I am with you. But, also, watching an emperor rise. A nation cut in twain. A people vanish. I see all of these." - Do you know what collected you?
- "Yes. And no. It was the same will that tied the temporal knot. Cold. Silent.
I choose not to investigate further."
- "I fragmented. Shattered across time. Something … collected me. Rebound back into this form.
- Where will you go now?
- "I have returned to Artaeum. I am locked in a cage of warded glass for observation. I sit on a rooftop in a city between places, watching. I feel the bite of an arrow piercing my shoulder. I dance in a warm rain.
I die in bed as my son holds my hand."
