Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
Leyawiin Mages Guild[edit]
Speak with Dagail in the Leyawiin Mages Guild about your recommendation. She wants you to find her amulet for her and directs you to Agata. Speak with Agata about a Seer's Stone, which helped Dagail with her visions. Agata says to speak with the other mages in the guild to see if any of them knows where it might be.
Asking around the guildhall members will reveal more information about Dagail. Residing Alchemist, Alves Uvenim will say: "She was a very powerful mage once, from what I understand. Hard to imagine that, honestly." and will add: "Agata is the first person I go to when I need something. Maybe I should talk to Dagail instead, but I just don't feel comfortable doing that." The other residing Alchemist, S'drassa, will give you his take on her: "A nice lady, but strange. Talks to herself far more often than one should, in my opinion. Sometimes I wonder why she hasn't just retired, and gone someplace to rest." About Agata, he will comment: "She's been a great help to all of us in the guild. Without her, I think Dagail would be lost at times."
All guild members will hint you towards the resident most dissatisfied with the leadership of the Guildhall, Kalthar. When asked about Dagail he will say: "I heard she was put in charge of the Leyawiin guild hall as a favor, not because she deserved it. That doesn't seem right, does it?" and on Agata, he will say: "She's the one you want to talk to if you actually need something to get done around here. I don't even know why Dagail is still around." When asked about the amulet, he will finally break down and get angry, in the process revealing a few bits of important information: "Well, well. Word is finally spreading, is it? They won't be able to keep up this facade much longer! Yeah, I know all about it. I overheard Agata and Dagail talking. And you know what? I'm glad it's gone! Why should we be forced to work under someone who's only kept sane by a magical trinket? Haven't we sacrificed enough already? She shouldn't even be here anymore. Hell, the only reason her father ever fit in anywhere is because he kept a low profile. And look what it got him! Years of service to the Empire, and not even a tombstone over his head! Hrmph. At least he was able to maintain the illusion of sanity. I know, I get way too fired up over this. It just annoys me that she's in charge of the guild, when she's clearly not fit. That's all."
Return to Agata with what Kalthar said. She'll agree to keep an eye on Kalthar and wants you to speak to Dagail about her father. Dagail doesn't make too much sense, but apparently you must find the fort where Dagail's father was stationed, somewhere near Leyawiin. Fort Blueblood, a little ways southeast of town, is now marked on your map.
Fort Blueblood[edit]
The Fort is full of marauders. Make your way through until you find the main camp, containing a tough Marauder Warlord. Kill him for a key (or steal it from him) to open a nearby door. Within this area you'll find Manduin's Coffin, in which will be Manduin's Amulet, the one for which Dagail is looking.
Worth Dying For[edit]
Once you find the amulet you'll be confronted by Kalthar, who will demand the amulet. He'll confess to stealing the amulet in an effort to see Dagail dismissed as leader of the Leyawiin Mages Guild and duly attack you. Deal with him and loot his key from his body. Return to Dagail and Agata with the amulet and the news of Kalthar to receive your recommendation (use the Seer's Stone topic to end the quest).
Notes[edit]
- After you defeat the marauders, make sure you loot their bodies before you take the amulet; after you encounter Kalthar, all three bodies in the final area will disappear along with their armor, items, etc.
- After the quest, Mages Guild members will start saying "Kalthar tried to ruin the Leyawiin guild. Just goes to show you can't trust a Necromancer, even if he claims to be 'reformed.'"
- When you turn in the amulet to Dagail, it is placed in her inventory and no longer a quest item, allowing you to pick-pocket it after the quest is finished.
- Before settling on Manduin's coffin as the quest container, there were two other versions made: one is a skull called "Manduin's Remains" which only contains the amulet. Its internal name of
MG07ManduinTemp
implies that this container was only temporary. The second version is also called "Manduin's Remains", but it is a skeleton and besides the amulet, it also carries a random piece of iron armor.
Bugs[edit]
- Do not leave Fort Blueblood without encountering and talking to Kalthar. He should come running at you right after you retrieve the amulet. If you leave beforehand, you will not be able to give the amulet to Dagail. If you speak to Dagail back at the guild, she will say that 'nothing has changed'. If you try to return to Kalthar, the door is locked, meaning you cannot continue the quest.
- The Unofficial Oblivion Patch addresses this issue. Avoiding Kalthar using his previously stolen key and then moving outside a certain distance of the fort entrance results in Kalthar despawning, and a message saying he has been "defeated", which is a little inconsistent but allows the quest to be completed.
- This can be triggered if you lure the creatures in the final room outside to fight them but do not kill them. Even if you then return, you will probably not be able to talk to Kalthar, who still thinks that there are monsters that need to be killed.
- You may type:
setstage MG07Leyawiin 70
into the Command Console to update the journal and allow the quest to continue as normal.
- Wearing necromancer's robes when Kalthar confronts you will result in him telling you to take them off instead of his normal dialogue, resulting in the bug mentioned above.
- The Unofficial Oblivion Patch fixes this bug.
- Typing
setstage MG07Leyawiin 70
into the Command Console will skip Kalthar's dialogue and allow the quest to continue as normal.
- The coffin containing "Manduin's Amulet" in Fort Blueblood will respawn after three days, meaning that it is possible to go back to the fort multiple times and retrieve multiple copies of the amulet.
- The Unofficial Oblivion Patch fixes this bug.

- Notes
- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
- If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
- It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering
setstage MG07Leyawiin stage
, wherestage
is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
