Lore:Daedra Lord
—The Impresario[1]
A Daedra Lord (also spelled Daedric Lord[2] or Daedroth Lord)[3][nb 1] is a greater Daedric being who occupies a rarefied space near the top of Daedric society, just one rung down from the Daedric Princes themselves,[4] maintaining great power and hierarchy over Oblivion that is matched only by the Demiprinces,[5] and exceeded only by the Daedric Princes.[UOL 1] The powers of the Daedra Lords are varied in scope, with some embodying their own individual spheres, and others being servants of the Daedric Princes who help maintain sub-spheres.[UOL 1] Many of the more powerful Lords also rule over their own realms and demi-planes within the infinite swirling void of Oblivion.[5][4]
Daedra Lords are one of the most powerful Daedra to be commonly seen in Tamriel, and are to be feared by all but the most experienced adventurers. They are known to be powerful fighters and spell casters, and can only be harmed by mithril or better weapons.[6] Mehrunes Dagon has many Daedra Lords in his service.[7][8]
While only "a few handfuls" of Daedric Princes are known to mortal scholars, there are dozens of known Daedra Lords whose identities have been recorded, and a potentially infinite amount more within Oblivion, who simply haven't interacted with mortals or been recorded doing so yet.[4]
Known Daedra Lords[edit]
- The Bad Man is a minor Daedric Lord of Bad Man's Hallows, a pocket realm centered around his form, a tree that channels dark energy.[9] He took the form of a Dremora Lord masquerading as the Breton God Sheor, who is the real Bad Man.[9][10]
- The Crow Mother, Nocturnal's "Nether-Niece" that has taken the form of a Hagraven, who rules over the Crow's Wood pocket realm.[11][2]
- Faydra Shardai is the leader of the Shardai Clan and served under Mehrunes Dagon for a time,[8] who considers her his adoptive daughter.[12]
- Hollowjack, a Pumpkin Spectre, is the Daedra Lord of mortal fears who rules over the demi-plane Detritus.[5]
- Imago Storm is the leader of the Dremora Clan and served under Mehrunes Dagon for a time.[8]
- Menthyx is a powerful Daedra Lord who was defeated by the Dremora Xynaa and the Ambition Sombren. After his defeat, his essence was bound and he was imprisoned in a dungeon in the Deadlands known as the Spidernest. The Vestige and Sombren used the skull of Menthyx to recharge his power which undid the curse Xynaa placed upon him, allowing him to reform.[13]
- Sumeer Jabran is a Daedra Lord who served under both Mehrunes Dagon and Molag Bal for a time.[8][14]
- Tho'at Replicanum is a Daedra Lord associated with the Daedric Prince Ithelia,[UOL 2] and Tho'at herself resembles the glass-like Shardborn from the realm of Mirrormoor.[4][15] Tho'at has an affinity toward ink, purportedly being made of it herself. She created the Maligraphies, beings made from ink, during her invasion of Apocrypha circa 2E 582.[16][4]
- Xivilai Moath is the leader of the Xivilai's Clan who served under both Mehrunes Dagon and Molag Bal for a time.[8][17] Mehrunes Dagon considers him his adoptive son.[12]
- The Daedric Lord of Fishing is a scarcely known Daedra Lord, save that they are a servant of Hircine, and have a distinctive aroma.[UOL 1]
- The Impresario seems to imply in her writings that she is a Daedra Lord,[1] possibly in reference to claims that she is a Demi-Prince in mortal disguise.[18]
Notes[edit]
-
- Demiprinces are also called Daedra Lords,[23] but like Daedric Princes, All Demiprinces are Daedric Lords, not all Daedra Lords are Demiprinces.
- Lyranth the Foolkiller extracted the power of the Four Ambitions from Mairead in the aftermath of Dagon's banishment and escaped. As she thereafter possessed a portion of a Greater Daedra's power, she may be considered a Daedra Lord.[24]
