Ancient Dragon?

Are we sure that Odahviing is battling an Ancient Dragon? Psylocke thinks that it looks like an Elder Dragon, due to the Bronze coloring, and I agree. For reference, here are some pictures:

The example pictures aren't totally accurate - in-game, the Elder Dragons appear to be a few shades darker. If Odahviing is indeed battling an Elder Dragon, then we need to rename this image. Thoughts? • JA^T 19:16, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

It appears that I deleted the savegame that I had for this encounter. I doubt that I would have called it an ancient dragon without knowing what kind of dragon it was, but I can't completely rule that out. Keep in mind that darkness was falling during this battle, and I usually adjust the brightness of darker images, either of which may have affected the coloring. Hello Xyzzy. I believe I'm able to come to a conclusion. Let us now analyse this "unknown-type" dragon in both your screenshots. Firstly, look at its scales. From the 2nd picture you uploaded, it is quite clear that it has bronze scales on its body. However, I am aware that you mentioned adjusting the brightness of the images. But even if that were so, it is not possible for the dragon to be an ancient dragon. They have bright orange-ish scales, which should be an even brighter shade compared to Odahviing, even after adjusting brightness.

Now to the second point, which I believe is the determining factor. Look at the underside of the unknown dragon (i.e. its belly). It is a lighter brown shade compared to the top half of its body. Compare this to the images Jak and I upoaded for the two different types of dragons. If it were an ancient dragon, its underside would be a shade of black, which isn't the case in your dragon.

Thirdly, just to wrap this up, compare the wing patterns. The patterns on your unknown dragon is more or less identical to those of an elder dragon, where the wings have a similar colouring to its body (half bronze, half light brown). An ancient dragon's wings are a shade of light orange with black splotches on them. So I think it is now safe to say that your "unknown" dragon is in fact an elder dragon.
